Planting for the Soul and the City:
Sufi Order Azeemia Tree Drive with CITY OF Mississauga
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi
Our Story
On May 24, 2025, Azeemia Spiritual & Healing Centre Canada, guided by the teachings of the Azeemia Sufi Order, humbly partnered with the City of Mississauga to support the city’s One Million Trees initiative. With hearts full of purpose and hands ready to serve, community members came together to plant 125 trees in the Applewood Heights area.
The event welcomed approximately 70 participants, including devoted members of the Azeemia Sufi Order and enthusiastic local residents. Their shared mission: to give back to nature and contribute to a greener, more sustainable Mississauga.
This initiative held deep spiritual meaning for the Azeemia members and fellows. Inspired by the teachings of their late spiritual guide, Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi, members participated not only as an act of environmental service, but also to honour his legacy. His guiding philosophy—to serve all creation selflessly, without expectation of favour or praise—was beautifully embodied in this act of care for the Earth.
Rashida Jilani Azeemi, in charge of Azeemia Spiritual & Healing Centre Canada, led the group and actively took part in the planting. The event was further honoured by the presence of Member of Parliament Peter Fonseca, Councillor Chris Fonseca, and MP Iqra Khalid, who joined in support of this meaningful initiative.
The program began at 10:00 AM with opening remarks from City of Mississauga staff, who shared the vision behind the Million Trees campaign and expressed their appreciation for Azeemia’s involvement. A brief demonstration on tree planting techniques followed, enabling everyone to contribute effectively.
Before concluding, participants were reminded about Azeemia’s upcoming annual event—Adam Day, which celebrates the theme of "Unity in Diversity." The occasion serves as a powerful reminder of the shared spiritual origin of all humanity and promotes harmony, inclusion, and mutual respect across cultures and beliefs.
The event wrapped up within two hours, followed by light refreshments. What remained afterward was a shared sense of unity, joy, and higher purpose—a deeply rewarding experience, both spiritually and communally.
This event was not just about planting trees. It was about cultivating something greater: growth of roots, growth of community, and growth of consciousness.
